Chronology of Educational and Cultural Exchanges
APRIL 24 - MAY 3, 1996
International scientific and cultural exchange between Russia and the United States. The American delegation included a multidisciplinary team of chiropractors, medical physicians, researchers, nurses and government officials. Invitation was from the Russian Far East government.
The aim was to establish initial dialogue between the U.S. and Russian medical and university personnel with the goal of establishing state of the art, multidisciplinary, spine treatment & research centers focusing on chiropractic and other conservative care approaches in the Russian Far East. As a result of this exchange a project was developed to set up the first Russian chiropractic treatment, teaching and research facility in Vladivostok, Russia.
A symposium was held in the auditorium of the Regional Hospital by the American delegation and was followed by a Round Table discussion with local Russian medical specialists. Site visits to several other hospitals also took place with the visiting delegation providing care to the inpatients.

Exchange and meetings occurred between the Vice Governor of Primorski Region, Russia, President Boris Yeltsin’s representative to Primorski Region, Dr. Matthew McCoy and Life University officials to discuss the establishment of a chiropractic educational program in Russia. Meetings also occurred with officials from CNN in Atlanta.

NOVEMBER 1996
Educational exchange was held in Vladivostok, Russia with Dr. Kenneth Stillwell and Dr. Harold McCoy lecturing to a group of manual therapists at a children’s outpatient rehabilitation center. Meetings and planning sessions also took place with Dr. Matthew McCoy as he continued to coordinate the establishment of the first chiropractic clinic in Russia.

Educational exchange involving Dr. Donald Mears Jr. lecturing on the Mears Upper Cervical Technique and consulting and treating patients at the Regional Center for Chiropractic “Spine” Dr. Harold McCoy additionally attended who lectured and instructed on computerized manual muscle testing. Ongoing meetings held with representatives of Vostok 1, Fishing Kolkhoz.

Educational exchange between the Regional Center for Chiropractic “Spine” in Vladivostok, Russia with Life University College of Chiropractic, Sherman College of Straight Chiropractic, Northwestern University of Health Sciences, the International Chiropractors Association and the World Chiropractic Alliance. Purpose was to explore the potential of developing a chiropractic educational program with the Far Eastern State University in Vladivostok, Russia

Meetings in Moscow and Vladivostok, Russia to further explore the development of a chiropractic educational program in the Russian Far East and the establishment of a clinic in Moscow. Meetings occurred with the President of Far Eastern State University and the Chairman of the Board of Health for Primorski Region. Purpose was to investigate legal issues of establishing an educational program and to survey potential physical locations. This trip also helped to coordinate the shipping and arrival of new equipment to the Regional Center for Chiropractic “Spine”

Presidential Scholarship to Life University granted for Ekaterina Malakhova, MD – Director of the Regional Center for Chiropractic “Spine.” Dr. Malakhova travels to Marietta, GA to begin her studies. She is offered a position as Adjunct Faculty in the College of Chiropractic teaching clinics.
